Children play less because of Covid and restrictions

Save the Children carried out a survey. They found 92% of children said they were playing differently now. Half said they did not play outside with friends as much now. One third said they played alone more of the time. There is a plan for a summer play campaign. Many charities are involved. Psychologists say that children must have time to play. They say the Government only wants children to catch up in schoolwork. The campaign wants children to play and they will help children in poorer areas.
Older people are still lonely because the charities are not back to normal
During the pandemic and when there was lockdown, most charities stopped working. They could not send people to help older people who lived alone. It is now possible to visit older people but hardly any of the charities are back to normal working and support. Older people are still suffering.
Heritage association says many special crafts are going to disappear
Special crafts which have existed for hundreds of years in the UK are dying out. This is partly because of Covid, but also the demand for these skills is changing. There are specialists who make glass eyes, and thatched roof makers, and makers of barometers (to measure air pressure for the weather). There is less demand now. Some crafts have disappeared altogether – cricket ball making, lacrosse stick making, sporran making for kilts. You can only see them in museums but they are part of our history.
