Impact on daily life

Impact 23rd June
Over 2 million people
who have been shielding (staying at home) will be able to come out and go to shops and go to work from 1st August.  That sounds good for those people who are fed up and want to meet up with family and friends.  But …
they will not be able to claim sick pay – unless they have the virus; or someone close has it.  They will lose the free food boxes delivered to their home.  They can still have priority for online shopping and have medicine delivered.  It is clear that not all people are happy about this.
Museums, galleries and cinemas will open again from 4th July in England.  Also expect pubs, restaurants and hotels to open at the same time.  They will still have rules about distance and being together.  In hotels there will be no mini-bars and you cannot have a serve yourself buffet breakfast.  Plastic shields everywhere. Doctors are concerned that this is risky.  Also a concern about privacy as restaurants may need to keep details about customers so that they could be tracked down if there was a virus outbreak.
Heatwave coming this week. Forecast says that London could have 30 degrees – the hottest day of the year.  Warnings about campfires and not to use too much water in the garden.
