Boris had a dinner on Wednesday with the President of the European Commission. The Sunday Times newspaper reports that it was a disaster. Boris turned up and immediately attacked Michel Barnier the French leader of the negotiation. He said he was blocking progress and should be removed .. then some really bad remarks about the French. That was a really terrible start to the discussion. The discussion made no progress.
At the same time the UK said they were preparing the Royal Navy to protect the fishing areas to stop the French from coming there. This was really a very bad threat when UK is trying to agree a deal.
Looks like London will be a Tier 3 areas from this week. Shocking pictures from Regent Street and Oxford Street on the weekend, crammed with people and no social distance.
Brexit will have an impact even if there is a deal. Already the value of the pound is falling .. – this means that if UK or an individual buys anything from abroad, it will cost more right away. This is worse for retired people who live in the EU – they receive their pensions in pounds. There is also a problem at airports like Heathrow where travellers can have duty free shopping. This will stop in January. Two thousand people have jobs in the tax-free stores at Heathrow.
New Zealand plans to have direct connection to Australia so that travellers can go back and forth without quarantine. Both countries have very low virus numbers. They are neighbours …. only 1,300 miles apart.
