Spain and travel agents are angry about the UK decision to make everyone stay at home for 2 weeks after they come back from Spanish holidays. They say that there is no reason for this. Spain has low virus rates in Majorca and Canary islands. The airlines have cancelled lots of flights and many people cannot go on holiday even though they paid. Labour party says it is chaos again.
People returning from holiday and into quarantine, are worried about their pay as they have used up their holiday time but can’t go to work. Who is going to pay for the quarantine? The Government now says they cannot have sick pay so they should claim the Universal Credit benefit. But this can take weeks to come through.
People who are losing their jobs are finding it very hard to get a new job. One thousand people applied for one receptionist job in Manchester restaurant last week. Recruitment agencies say there is more demand for jobs than for 20 years.
Forgotten people? In Iran there are several British citizens who are in jail. Iran says they are spies. UK says no. A British-Australian academic, Kylie Moore-Gilbert has been kept in prison since 2018. They have taken her to a terrible prison in the desert now where conditions are really bad. There is violence and torture. It seems that the British Government cannot do anything about this.
