Boris announces the new Green Industrial Revolution. As well as bringing electric cars in by 2030, he wants to take away all gas boilers and plant more trees. However, environment groups say the plans are not enough. They say that big road projects and rail projects like HS2 will create a lot more carbon dioxide and the Green plan does not even mention this.
Boris is also going to announce extra £16billion funding for the armed forces. A few weeks ago the Government would not pay for free school meals for poorer children but now there is a huge increase in the funding for the army. The Government is cutting the money it gives to poor countries – overseas aid – but it is able to find this new money. Some of the money is to develop a Cyber Force to be able to attack other computer and data systems. Some of the money is for Space Command so that UK can have its own rockets.
The US regulation body has said Boeing’s 737 Max plane is safe to fly again … but only in the USA. Remember there were crashes. The reason was a faulty computer system which pushed down the nose of the plane when it should be going up. A total of 346 people died in 2 crashes in 2018 and 2019. Since then Boeing have been making changes to the computer systems and say that the plane is safe now. Pilots will need to be retrained to fly the plane.
In Germany, they have a word for panic-buying in shops. They say that people are “hamster-ing”. Why? Hamsters collect food in their cheeks and take it away and keep it in a little store they have hidden so that they can eat it later.
