News 5th may UK Government wants to unlock by 17th May
There are low numbers of covid cases and few people dying.  There was no big surge when schools went back.  Government wants to go ahead on 17th May:  family & friends to meet indoors; people can hug again; pubs and restaurants and cinemas can open up again.  It looks good but final decision will be closer to 17th May.
New plan for India to invest £1 billion in UK – 6,000 jobs
PM Boris and PM of India plan a trade deal.  First the Serum Institute  – world’s largest in vaccines – will have trials and offices in UK.  UK wants to send fruit and medical equipment to India.  Part of the deal is that India will take back all the Indian illegal immigrants – UK wants to remove them.  In return, the UK will accept 3,000 young Indian professionals every year.
Greta Thunberg says world leaders continue to deny climate crisis
Monday she met Swedish prime Minister.  She said afterwards – we climate activists … meet again and again with leaders but it is “the same discussion every time – there is complete denial.”  The Swedish PM says they are doing a lot.  She says it is not enough.  The countries are not changing fast enough.  In Russia. It is the opposite.  In the east of Siberia, in the frozen area, they are digging one of the world’s largest open coal mines.  Russia wants more coal by 50% by 2035.  Russia is going against all the reports on climate change.
