Bad News Day. 7th May
Government fails for 4^th day to reach 100,000 tests … and numbers are getting less.  Only 70,000 yesterday.  Boris Johnson says they will increase to 200,000 in May.  Nobody believes this.  But this is not enough to cover all the care workers and families as well as hospital staff. 
The other problem is that tests results are not immediate and can take some days.  So people with virus can still be going around, even if they have been tested positive.
Previous prime minister now says that we need to be offering tests to everyone who has to go to work in schools and offices.  If not, people will be frightened to go to work.
Next, 6 million people are on furlough (not going to work but are paid).  The Government is paying for this.  Realise it costs too much.  So now they will have to reduce this.  But then people might lose their jobs altogether, if it stops in July.
Now there are big criticisms for the Government.  Labour Party says they did not test enough, did not lockdown at right time and did not provide protective equipment.  Very serious.  Government figures show, compared to population, UK is worse than USA and all European countries except Spain.
Newspapers in many other countries in Europe and even Australia, say Boris Johnson is incompetent and British Government is weak.
