People were told it was OK to go to Portugal for holidays and many people made last minute bookings.  Now, Wales and Scotland say you have to isolate if you are coming back from Portugal.  No change or quarantine if you travel into England.  Chaos for travellers.
The HS2 project is starting officially today.  HS2 is a special high speed rail link between London, Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds and they say this will create 22 thousand jobs over the next years.  The project will take 20 years to complete.  However, they now say it will cost over £100 billion and could take 5 years longer than they first thought.  There are many protests against the project because the money could be spent on other projects which would help people in more parts of the country.
Eating out in restaurants and pubs cost the Government over £500 million.  Remember you could get £10 off each meal on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in August.  A lot of people went out and 100 million meals were claimed.
Are you thinking of changing your car?  You know that the Government is planning to stop selling all petrol and diesel cars in the next 20 years.  Does it make sense to buy an electric car now?  Yes, but they are much too expensive.  It is a chicken and egg … car makers need to sell more so that the price comes down but people won’t buy until the price comes down.  There needs to be a bigger grant for people so that they can buy more of the electric cars.
