Government was in chaos over Covid says Dominic Cummings
He was PM Boris chief adviser. On Wednesday he gave evidence to a committee in Parliament. He said the Health Minister, Hancock, should have been sacked. He said Boris Johnson was not fit to be Prime Minister. More details in the UK news section.
More job losses as M&S closes 30 shops
Marks and Spencer has closed 59 main stores – 7,000 job lost. Now they say they will close another 30. It will take 10 years. They have made big losses on their clothes but are doing OK with food. They have a total of 254 stores so 30 is not so many. And they say they will take over some Debenhams stores.
Canary Islands and Majorca may be on the green list by June 7th
The Government thinks it is possible that these islands could go on the green list so that people from UK can have a holiday there. No quarantine. That is good news for travel companies.
UCAS wants more teenagers to go for apprenticeships
UCAS is the organisation for entry to University – if you have A-levels. Now they say for many people, it is better not to go to University. It is better to go to work and learn on the job. You can get the qualifications while you are working. In 2018, 13 thousand people took apprenticeships; 570 thousand young people went to university. UCAS wants to change this.
