Covid lockdown for schools will carry on until at least March 8th.  This could mean 9 more weeks to go. Schools closure started on 4 January.  Pubs and Restaurants will stay closed for a longer time until perhaps later in March. 
Fact – new cases are coming down quickly but Boris says the country still faces huge Covid problems. Boris will tell his plans after February 22nd on how we will come out of lockdown slowly and carefully. Boris explained that UK was forced into another lockdown because of the new variant. We were not well prepared.
NHS Covid latest situation
On 27th January, 37,605 patients were in hospital. and 3,082 new patients went into hospitals; 3,961 are on ventilation. 1,724 deaths on Wednesday is very high and one of the worst rates when compared with other countries. New cases are coming down slowly – 25,308. In UK, over 7 million have received their 1st dose – the vaccinations will progress more rapidly now.  UK hopes by 15th February, all priority groups will have had their first dose vaccines
EU says all companies in Europe must inform EU when they are exporting vaccines.  Astra Zeneca said they are meeting with the EU.  They said they were not pulling out of the talks. They are working very hard to keep up with the supplies and there were problems with production of vaccines. They claim that EU was very late with their orders for vaccines – about 2 months later than UK. Astra Zeneca must meet their contract commitments.  UK is doing well with supplies of vaccines compared with the rest of EU.
