More statues being taken down now.  After the protesters in Bristol, pulled down the statue of Edward Colston, students in Oxford are protesting about the statue of Cecil Rhodes who was a major figure in the British colonies in Africa.  A slave trader statue in London was taken down yesterday.  There are issues for two schools in Bristol which are named after Colston and Bristol Cathedral has stain glass windows with Colston’s name.  There are discussions taking place.  The difficulty is that the success of the British Empire came about because of these people and their actions in Africa and India.
It is a puzzle why the German authorities are claiming that Madeleine McCann is no longer alive as no evidence has been presented.  It is another tough time for the parents.
Strong criticism of the “world-beating test and trace system” that Boris promised (starting on 1st June).  Independent scientists say the Government’s approach could miss up to 80% of cases.  It is too centralised when it should be local in small areas.  Ordinary people have less confidence in the Government now and may not stick to the 14-day self-isolation if a tracer calls them on the phone.  The system has to work faster and has to give (financial) support to the people who need to isolate.
