Major charities are asking the Governments in France and UK to work together to give a safe route to the UK …. to solve the problem of people crossing the Channel in unsafe boats in bad weather. They say the Channel must not be a graveyard for children. But UK Government continues to blame people smugglers and will not accept that the problem is the refusal of the UK to give a safe way for refugees to apply to come to the UK. Conservatives just talk about the symptoms of the problem (people in boats) instead of the cause (the refusal to offer a way for refugees to come to the UK safely).
Free school meals – who is right? Marcus Rashford has a huge response form the public, schools and organisations and there is a great effort to prepare and give out food parcels to families in need. The newspapers and senior MPs say the Government is wrong to resist the request to give meal vouchers to all children who usually have free school meals. Boris and the Chancellor say they will not do this. They say the Local Councils were given £63 million for this. But the Local Councils say the money was to help families – not the children – and anyway the money had to be spent by the end of September – so there is no money.
Brexit deal is still in the balance according to the President of the EU Council. Nearly 4 years since the vote and after the Conservatives said it was so easy to have a deal and Boris said he already had a deal (“oven-ready”) in December last year, there is still no deal. They are trying to keep the talks secret at the moment but it does not look good at this stage.
