Hugging is back next week

Watch out for the deaf hug!  From 17th May, Government says OK for indoor drinks and meals for groups up to 6.  Some international travel will start.  You don’t need to wear a mask in school.  This is all OK because high numbers of people with vaccine.  BUT … scientists say it is risky.  The India covid is in UK and is spreading.  Scientist say wait until everyone has the vaccine – July – then OK for indoors.  Hugs?  Well OK if you keep the windows open and don’t breathe on the other person.
11th May – Queen’s speech changing the laws for voting
They call it the Queen’s speech – it means the Government’s plans for new laws.  One big change they want is how to vote.  Now they want everyone to show a photo ID.  In the USA, they use this rule – it helps to stop voting by poor people and ethnic minorities and young people.  Not good.  Many people do not have a passport or driving licence.  They will have to apply to the Council for a photo voting card.  People have to do this in advance.  Obviously, this will mean many people do not vote… it is much harder for poorer people.
We are human snails! – our smartphone is like our home
Research studied people in many countries.  They watched and talked to people about how they use their smartphone.  The smartphone is not a toy – it is where we live.  Think about in a pub, at a meal, in a group meeting – some people just disappear into their smartphone – like they have gone home.  It is the “death of proximity.”  It means we carry our smartphones everywhere – all the time – we have to contact people and see the news and see what other people say to us…. All the time.
