Major disagreement between the Mayor of Manchester and the Government over the plans to put Manchester and other areas into Tier 3 to close down pubs and restaurants. The aim is to slow down the virus. But experts are not sure this will have a big effect. Manchester says this means losing jobs for no result and just helping people in the south of England. The arguments are confused. The result could be very serious since the virus is not interested in the arguments – it will just continue to spread.
The EU is prepared to have 2 -3 weeks more of talks about Brexit. But the EU leaders now say that UK must make the changes to their position and accept the main points being offered to them. Boris has to decide if the UK will continue to try to make a deal. The French are very clear that they wish to protect their fishermen and say that it is Britain who decided to leave, not the EU, so the changes need to come from the UK.
Remember in 201, there was a huge tsunami (tidal wave) after an earthquake at sea and it flooded Fukishima, a town in Japan. It also flooded the nuclear plant. It has been full of radioactive water ever since then. They cannot fix it. Now the Japanese Government are planning in 2022 to release the water which is radioactive, into the Pacific Ocean. This will affect all the fish in the area (it might not kill them but it means they cannot be eaten by humans) and so fishermen are not pleased. There is no obvious solution at the moment.
