The World Health Organisation says that the numbers of cases in Europe are now more than they were in March.  Last week there were 300 thousand new cases.  The cases in Spain and France are the worst but even the Czech Republic which had hardly any cases before, has now over 2,000 each day.  The WHO agrees that the new cases are mostly younger people but they are worried they will pass it on to older people and those who have other illnesses.
It is strange because last week we said not many people were going back to work in offices.  Now there is a new set of figures which says that over 60% of people are going back to work.  Employers are saying home working is OK but workers are saying that they miss being with other people at work.
All the rivers in England are polluted with sewage and chemical waste from factories and farms.   The Environment Agency does tests on the water and no rivers had a good chemical status – means that there was pollution in all of them.  It seems this has been getting worse and will not reach the targets for natural fresh water.  As usual, they call on the Government to have stronger laws and controls on the chemicals that are being used and which leak into the rivers.
Smoke from the California wildfires is now reaching Northern parts of Europe.  The airstreams that travel around the world are carrying the smoke for thousands of miles.
