News 5th October
This week is when the Conservative Party should hold its conference. It is not possible to have a big conference – everything will be online – a virtual conference. There is a lot of concern about Boris at the moment. He is making mistakes when asked questions and has taken the decision to break international law. Not only is there a virus problem but Brexit is not going well. He said in January, that a deal with the EU would be easy … it still has not happened. MPs are beginning to complain and say that he is not a good leader now.
The Brexit talks (supposed to be the last round) broke up on Thursday and there was no deal. Boris had a phone call with the President of the Commission and they agreed that there could be more discussion but there are big differences. This week, the EU will have more discussion in London and then the UK people will go to Brussels next week in the hope that they can reach a deal.
Do you live in London? Do you have a car? Do you drive into London? From next year, in October you may need to get rid of your car or pay £12.50 every day. There is a new Ultra Low Emission Zone which covers a huge area of London. In order to have a car in that area, it has to meet some standards. Petrol cars from before 2006, will not meet the standard and diesel cars before 2015 , will not meet the standard either. You have scrap the car or pay £12.50 each day that you drive it.
