Taking down of the statue of Colston in Bristol.  Marvin Rees, Mayor of Bristol was highly critical of the Home Secretary, Priti Patel and the Prime Minister who claimed it was mindless violence.  Patel said some of the people at the marches were thugs and criminals. She says they will be prosecuted.  Marvin Rees said the Government was not sensitive to the meaning of the torn down statue.  He condemned violence but suggested that we need to understand the feelings of the people and that we are in a different time when politicians need to listen and understand.  There were 10 thousand people in the Bristol protest.  More in London and other cities.  Boris said the protests were taken over “by thuggery.”
Because of the protests more people have become aware.  A new campaign “Black curriculum” is asking the Education secretary to make it compulsory to teach black history in school.
Britain is changing.  At midnight on Wednesday. For 2 months, Britain has not burned coal to generate power.  Electricity is coming from wind farms and other forms of renewable energy.  This is partly because of lockdown, as people have used much less electricity but is a major development to help the climate.
In the UK, the daily virus deaths are now less than before the lockdown.  It seems that the impact of the virus is getting less.  Some warning to be careful to avoid a second wave.
