France may be on a Covid travel “red list” country. UK government thinking about putting France on the list for border controls. If decided then people arriving from France will have to go through hotel quarantine. Labour is saying France should be added to the list.  The decision might be made very soon.
Liverpool City Council may soon come under controls of central government. Emergency inspection found the council business has many serious failures and problems . If this goes ahead then it will be the first time the government will send commissioners to help and reform the council.   This may take up to three years. The Labour Party supports this proposal to reform. Last December, five men, including the mayor were arrested because of fraud with building contracts.
Eight more John Lewis stores to close this year 2021.  Possibly up to 1,500 jobs to go because big loss in trading income. In 2020, eight stores were closed. Pandemic has encouraged more online shopping therefore less need for these stores. John Lewis wants to invest money saved from closures for their 34 remaining stores and open new smaller neighbourhood shops.
