The Government had a report from the Security Committee but delayed it for 9 months.  They wanted it to appear after the election.  Now we can see why.  MI5 and the different departments responsible believed that there was interference from Russia in the Scotland referendum in 2014 and in the Brexit referendum but were not told to properly investigate.  Many people had big concerns not only about spying but about social media and false information. The Conservative Government refused to investigate it.  They said it had no effect on the Brexit outcome or the election in 2017.  This report now says that Russians had become more and more involved in London … buying up property and taking over British companies and using the City of London to pass money through.  Some came to live in London and send children to school here.  They invested in British companies and even paid members of the House of Lords to be involved in the companies.  They also gave a lot of money to the Conservative Party.  The Government is refusing to have a review of all of this.  But there will be a big fuss in Parliament now and in the newspapers.
Labour Party says this report on security shows gross failure.  The Government says they are considering registering foreign agents … but actually there are no firm plans about any proposals.  The Foreign Secretary, Raab, says they “have been clear, that Russia must stop this interfering.”  Russia just denies everything.  The Metro (free newspaper) calls England’s capital city “Londongrad”.
