Oh dear! Boris refuses to extend the deadline for Brexit talks. With lorries stacked up at Dover and travel bans on UK people, it looks crazy to carry on with a possible no deal. Nicola Sturgeon in Scotland and the London Mayor want the UK to keep to EU trading rules after 31 December so that there will be more time to get an agreement. For most people that makes most sense – businesses still do not know what they have to plan … it is only 10 days away. Boris says he won’t change. He thinks the UK will just “cope with any difficulties”…. Oh dear!
You may remember the horrible deaths of Vietnamese migrants who were trying to come to UK. They died of suffocation in a trailer while being taken across the Channel. The police have caught the gang and the first two – the leaders- have been found guilty by the court. Expect big sentences.
The star of Bethelhem? You may have noticed a lot of excitement among astronomers today. No? You probably know that there was one very famous deaf astronomer, John Goodricke in the 18th century. Unfortunately, he died when he was only 21. Anyway, the astronomers today are very excited about the bright “star” in the sky. Actually not a star but it is two planets coming into line and reflecting the sun, together. The planets are Jupiter and Saturn – the two largest planets. The last time this happened was in the 17th century, so no one actually saw it, is still alive. You can see it if you have a clear night sky and no light pollution. When? It could be best on Christmas Eve. That is why the astronomers are wondering if this was what happened with the original star over Bethlehem on the very first Christmas. Could be…..
