Big rallies in cities in France over the killing of a school teacher because he showed some cartoons of the Prophet to his class.  The intention was to talk about free speech and expression.  However, Muslim parents were upset by this and he was threatened and then he was killed on the way home from school .  Police caught up with the murderer and then shot him.  They have also arrested members of family.  French people believe in free speech and say they will not accept this attack on their freedom.
Businesses are concerned as Boris has said there is no point in more discussion with the EU about Brexit and people should be prepared for no deal.  Although the EU is continuing to have talks, businesses are worried that a really poor deal will be set up and it will cause huge problems for customs and border checks.    This will be complicated and cause big delays and prices will go up.
How long do you expect to live?  In the 1950s, in the UK, the average was 69 years; now the average is 81 years.  That looks really good except it is lower than other countries in Europe.  In Italy, Spain, France and Sweden it is 83 years.  In Scotland, the life expectancy is less – only 79 years.  The biggest problem is in diabetes, breathing disorders and dementia.  Alcohol and drug abuse are also factors.  The life expectancy is worst in areas which are poorer – the north of England – Blackpool, Liverpool, Manchester.  Of course, this is also where Covid has most impact.  The scientists say that there are three epidemics:  Covid, bad living conditions and poverty with inequality.
