New covid surge in London – the person came from Africa
NHS are trying to test everyone in Lambeth and Wandsworth in London.  They confirm 44 cases of covid and another 30 probable cases.  It is the South African version of covid.  A person arrived in UK before that African country was on the red list.  There was no quarantine.  Members of the family caught the virus and then spread it to a care home.  Health experts say that the mass testing is not enough to stop the virus.  They worry our vaccines will not protect against the South African version of covid.
Russian Navalny lost 15 kilograms on hunger strike
Remember Navalny?  He was the opposition to Putin in Russia.  They tried to poison him but he was saved in hospital in Germany.  He went back to Russia.  They arrested him and sent him to a prison camp.  He was unwell but they refused to give him his doctor.  He went on hunger strike and lost 15 kilograms in weight.  Now the prison say they will force feed him to keep him alive.  Many countries complain about what the Russians are doing.  Putin ignores them.
Bad news if you need to go to hospital – there is a very long waiting list
In 2020, NHS had to work hard on covid.  Other medical work had to stop.  Report says 4.5 million people missed their operations.   Also many people did not get their tests for different illnesses.  Now there is a waiting list of 10 million people.  Go-fund-me website says that a lot of people go online now to raise money to help pay for their operations and drugs.
