Nightingale hospitals
– do you know about them?  They were emergency hospitals set up in April in case the NHS was full so that Covid patients could have a bed.  They were in London, Birmingham and the big cities.  So far there have been 200 patients … since April.  The cost? Over £200 million.  That means each patient cost £1m.  Not reasonable – the Government panicked.  The other problem is that there are no staff for these emergency hospitals .. they have to come from the main hospitals … which are already full.  So this does not really make sense.
Last week there was a report about the woman who is in charge of the vaccine plans for the UK. The report says she gave away confidential information at a conference.  She denied this to the MPs but when the Times newspaper asked the Government department to explain the information she gave out .. they refused to answer.  Now it turns out that Kate Bingham, who has no experience in Medical research or development has paid out over £600 thousand for consultants for public relations (?). That is taxpayer money.  It is not clear what this is for and no one is supervising.  She got the job without a competition and her husband is friends with Boris from school at Eton.
They don’t want old people.  In Surrey, in Elmbridge, they have refused planning for a retirement village for people over the age of 65 years.  The council says it would make the town less active (they say “less vital”).  This is one of the rich areas where Andy Murray and Elton John have houses and the local MP is the Government Foreign Secretary.  There are complaints that this is age discrimination.
