The figures now show that 40% of all the people who died with the virus were in care homes. The Labour Party raised questions in Parliament that Government had given the wrong information up to March that there was no problem for care homes.
In fact, patients in hospital were moved out to care homes so that the NHS would be OK. The people sent to the care homes were not tested for the virus but the care homes were forced to accept those people. We know now that the care homes did not have all the equipment to manage the virus and many staff died as a result.
The World Health Organisation says that Corona virus may never go away. Like the cold and flu. It will come back again and again. They hope for vaccine but that would still be a huge problem to send it out to every country and to make sure everyone who gets ill is discovered.
Public Health England (PHE) says an antibody test for virus is looking good. Tested in the lab. This is a test to find if person has had the virus and now is immune (cant’ get it again and can’t spread it to other people). It means people could go back to work after having the virus. Next step is to try out on real people.
