The newspapers were saying that the lockdown would be less from next week – because of what Boris Johnson said. Now the Government says, that this is not true. Changes will be small. Some people may be able to go out more but not stopping lockdown. On Sunday the Prime Minister will give a speech.
The Bank of England says that there will be the worst recession for 300 years. Factories have suddenly stopped, shops are not open to make profits and the country is not growing. This means a lot of people become unemployed and people are poorer. They say it will get much better again next year.
It is confirmed now: people from Black and Asian Communities are twice as likely to die from the virus than white people. Many reasons like poorer housing, jobs, income .. .but even so, they have been much more affected.
There are concerns about using numbers about the virus. Figures are underestimates because many more people have died in the UK than the average for this time of year. The Government says 30,000 people died from virus, but lots more people actually died but not just from virus. This happens because more people died in care homes and stayed at home even though they were ill. They did not get treatment. It is a big indirect effect of the virus. This will be the same in most countries and the actual figures are probably much higher than anyone is saying.
