Inauguration ceremony in Washington D
President Biden was sworn in as the 46th President.  He gave a long passionate speech:  “This is democracy day, democracy has prevailed.” The ceremony went smoothly for 2 hours without any trouble. There were 23,000 soldiers around. Biden said un-civil war must end and unity is very important for all to heal as a nation. Biden wants America to work to defeat racism, joblessness and division between all peoples.
Kamala Harris has become first female vice president who is Black and South-Asian.
New President’s executive orders
Biden made several executive orders and sign them on the first day in office. He wants to roll back Trump’s negative policies and take America back to the rest of the world once again. He signed 15 executive orders in his first action as president – including to rejoin the Paris climate Accord.  Democrats will be in control of the President, the House of Representatives and Senate for the first time in many years.
Trump with his wife left the White House yesterday for the last time. But he did not attend the Inauguration.  This is the first time in 150 years. It left a bad taste with many people.  He said “we will be back” but he still faces an impeachment trial.  Pence, the Vice President and his wife attended the ceremony instead of Trump.
In memory of US Covid deaths
Biden asked for silence in memory of 400,000 Covid deaths – much worse than the number of deaths in World War 2.
