World News 26th November
Michel Barnier from the EU says that if UK does not make some change to its position, he will pull out of the Brexit talks in London this weekend.  He told the UK representative that more talks would be pointless unless UK made some compromise.
You know about the crisis in the Amazon where the trees are being cut down so that there can be more farming.  This affects the world climate.  One big company is buying the soya that the farmers are able to grow after they take away the trees. This is shipped to UK and processed into chicken feed. It turns out that Tesco, Lidl and fast food places are buying chickens which are fed partly on the soya from Brazil.  It looks like we are all part of this food chain affecting the  climate.
Virus update.  Over 60 million cases, nearly 13,000 deaths each day.  Germany has a partial lockdown of restaurants, bars, sports and leisure  – but schools and shops are still open.  The lockdown is to continue until 20th December.  Daily deaths in the USA reached 2,157 which means one death every 20 seconds.
Germany and Italy are worried about ski-ing this year because one of the hotspots for the virus in 2020 was when people were together inside after being out in the snow.  They are asking the EU to close the ski resorts until January to keep the virus under control.
Thanksgiving Day in the USA. Big difference between Trump and Biden.  Trump still sending tweets making claims about fraud with no evidence.  Biden praying for people and saying that the “fight is with the virus, not with each other.”  He is trying to bring people together – there has been a big rise in the numbers of people who have to go to food banks.
