There is an inquiry in Washington about the riot on January 6th. The head of police for the Capitol, says that the rioters came “prepared for war.” He said they had weapons, radios and climbing gear. The Democrats impeached ex-President Trump – they said he encouraged people to behave like that. But they failed to get a majority in the Senate to support them.
Facebook has reversed the ban on news in Australia. Both sides say there is a mis-understanding and there are talks going on. The Australian Government wanted Facebook to pay for the news. However, many supporters of the Internet were worried that this could damage the Internet if people made charges for their public content.
Sweden did not have a lockdown at all. But now they have the British Covid version. There are over 10 thousand new cases. They are asking people to wear masks in shops and at work. Sweden has more deaths than Norway and Denmark which are very close. Those countries had lockdowns. In Germany, they say there is a third wave of Covid happening now. In Ireland they have discovered the Brazilian version of the virus. All their pubs are to stay closed until the summer. On Tuesday, doctors in Greece were on strike – they want more staff, more pay and better conditions during the Covid pandemic.
Many people objected that the football world cup was going to Qatar, in the Middle East. This will happen in 2022. People say it is much too hot there and they do not play football. Qatar began to build special football stadiums with air conditioning. Only trouble is that they did not have the workers. So they brought them from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh and other poor countries. The conditions were very bad. So far 6,500 workers have died. Workers say many more than this have died.
