Chinese National People’s Congress has 3,000 delegates.  There are two major proposals  – one to crackdown on freedom in Hong Kong and the other to continue to develop coal mining.  Many people who want democracy, have been arrested in Hong Kong.  Some have disappeared.  China have said they develop wind and nuclear power but they have new coal powered stations to produce 247GW of power – enough for the whole of Germany.   This could affect climate change.
On Monday, the trial of the former policeman accused of killing George Floyd starts in Minneapolis. USA. There is a problem in selecting the jury as the rules do not allow anyone who has knowledge of the crime. Everyone in USA is aware of what happened.
Nazanine-Ratcliffe the British–Iranian woman has been kept in Iran in jail and house arrest for 5 years.  She completed her sentence.  They removed her ankle tag.  But …there will be a new court case next Sunday. The charges against her are not known.   Her family are desperate to have her back in England.   UK is complaining.  So far they have no impact.
Switzerland has banned the wearing of face coverings including the burka and niqab.  They are worn by Muslim women. The ban is a result of a public referendum. It was a narrow result passed by 51.2% against 48.8%
Two former Gallaudet students have opened a “Deaf Pizzeria” in Washington DC only 2 blocks away from the university. The pizzeria employs only Deaf and Hard of Hearing employees. Customers can communicate with Deaf staff by pointing to items on the menu and are also encouraged to place orders with their mobile phones and try some sign language if they can.
