The World Health Organisation says it will be difficult for the next six months for Europe because of Covid.  There are over 15 million cases and one person is dying every 17 seconds – scary.  There are big concerns for France and Switzerland.  Their intensive care units are at 95% of the capacity and cannot take much more pressure on staff and the centres.
Pompeo, US Secretary of State.  He said earlier Trump had won the election.  He is now in Israel.  His visit is a problem as he is going to places where there are Jewish settlements  which are not recognised by other countries and the EU.  The Palestinian people are very angry about this because they say it is their land.  It looks like Pompeo wants to have his own political career and is trying to support Israel.
Trump has been phoning officials who are responsible for confirming the election result in some States.  The reports are saying he is trying to get them to change their minds and not to accept the results.  He has invited a number of these officials to the White House.  This looks like direct interference.  His legal cases about fraud are not being accepted by the courts.
The town with no daylight.  In the very north of Alaska, there is a town which was called Barrow, now officially Utqiagvik (good one for hearing-speakers to try to say).  That is the Inuit or Eskimo name.  The sun disappeared on Thursday and will not rise again until January 22^nd.  This is because of the tilt on the Earth.  In summer the opposite, 24 hours of daylight.  There are over 4,000 people living there.  What is interesting is that they have their own university and they teach their own Inuit culture and values.  This was a dream which deaf people had in the USA in the 19^th century… to have their own sign language State.
