The World Bank said that the virus could make 60 million people poorer and have to live on £1.60 a day. This is because people are not buying clothes and other goods because of the lockdown in the rich countries. So, factories in poor countries have to be shut. Also in many countries like Saudi Arabia, there are many workers from poor countries. They send their wages home to help their families in Pakistan and Bangladesh. Now they have lost their jobs and so the money cannot be sent to their families at home and now they suffer. The World Bank has to give emergency money to the poor countries.
There are continuing problems in Brazil where they have the third highest number of virus cases – over 250 thousand. The numbers of deaths is nearly 20,000. The President still says the virus is a “little flu” and he tells governors to stop the lockdown.
In Australia, there are only 7 thousand cases and only 100 deaths. Nurseries and schools are open and people can meet up. However, they say it will not be normal until a vaccine is found.
