Germany extends the restrictions because of the UK version of the virus.  They say there is a third wave.  The lockdown will be very strict over Easter – all shops have to shut except food; no religious services allowed and people cannot meet up in large groups.  You can see in the graph that France has a big increase in cases and there are other big rises in Poland and Italy.  Some country figures are not reliable and they show very low rates.  EU countries want to catch up with the vaccines to try to stop the virus growing even more.
Another shooting in the USA.  This time 10 people were killed in a supermarket.  It is too easy for people to buy guns and crazy people can easily have a gun and just make random attacks.  President Biden asks for gun control.
Russia and China are rejecting the sanctions of the USA and EU.  They say it is interference in their affairs.  China denies that they oppress the Uighurs; Russia says they did not attack the US elections.  There are reports that China has been giving vaccine to poorer countries for free – the US says this is just to have more power over those countries.   Russia says it is the EU which is breaking relations with Russia.  Everyone denies all the claims.  We expect that Russia and China will have sanctions on EU, UK and USA.
There are many people arriving in Iceland to watch the new volcano (see the photo).  It is quite near the capital city, and  a lot of people just go out from their homes to see what is happening.  It looks really dangerous as the lava flows down.  Some people are being silly and trying to cook sausages on the hot lava!  Police and rescue workers are keeping watch.  This is the first time in 800 years for this volcano to erupt.  It started on Friday but is continuing.
