New book by Woodward (who is famous for his work on the Watergate scandal which led to President Nixon having to resign) says that Trump knew about the virus and how serious it was, in February. But he kept saying it was under control and it would go away. He did very little to prevent it and now 190 thousand people have died. At the time, he said he did not want to create a panic. They say he tried to keep the stocks and shares at a high level to help himself and his friends. He wants to deny all this but the trouble is that the book is based on interview recordings and so the evidence is there.
Huge fires are destroying the Amazon. The fires are mostly deliberate and illegal. They are started by land grabbers and ranchers who think they can grow crops and have cattle on the land and make big profits. The Government has mostly encouraged them. Native Indians who live in the Amazon are trying to fight against it but the ranchers have guns and threaten and even kill people.
France and Germany are working together to persuade EU countries to accept the migrants from the refugee camp in Lesbos which burned down. They want to support Greece. They have to convince other countries to take a share of the refugees.
