People in Japan want to cancel Olympics
Japan has a state of emergency in Tokyo and many states.  Covid has spread fast.  Olympic committee wants to have the Games in the summer.  Now 60% of people in Japan want the Games to be scrapped – it is too dangerous to have thousands of people coming to Japan.  The Olympic Committee are just ignoring the protests and they say they will go ahead anyway.
French court says Air France and Airbus to stand trial for crash
In 2009, the plane from Brazil to Paris, crashed in the sea.  There were 288 people who died.  The crash was in a storm.  The pilot tried to fly above the storm but the plane’s engine stopped and then they crashed straight down into the sea.  There were lots of warning alarms but the pilots did not stop the plane from going down.  It took two years to find where the plane had gone – it just disappeared.  Families are pleased but it could be more years before they have a trial.
Neural engineering – a man writes sentences with his brain
This is amazing.  A man was in an accident and he is not able to move his body from the neck down.  They connected him to a machine which can detect his brain waves and then it turns those waves into words on a screen.  He has to imagine that he has a pen and paper and is writing out the letters.  The computer can then figure out from his brain waves which letter he is thinking.  The words appear on the screen.  Maybe a deaf person can imagine signs and then they would appear on screen.  Maybe in future.
