USA becoming more extreme. You might think.. They lost the election – so let’s have a think about it. Maybe change a few ideas. No way! Republicans are more extreme. Scary because it is more White Extreme. They spread crazy ideas (“conspiracy theories” that are anti-Jewish, that children are stolen, that there is no Covid) and they still say the election was a fraud. Trump will go to trial on February 8th. Too many senators now deny he stirred up the crowd. The trial will not succeed.
Facebook making money from crazy vaccine stories
There are lots of groups across the world who spread bad stories about the vaccine. They say it is not safe, not healthy and it will kill you …. People get scared and many are refusing the vaccine. Facebook gets money from the adverts. Facebook says it is removing lots of these sites.
Apple buys the Sundance film “CODA”
Yes .. it is all about a one girl in a deaf family. It cost Apple $25 million to buy – a record. It will be shown on Apple TV later in 2021.
Trouble for interpreters – easy for deaf
You know all the new words we have in news…. Where do they come from? Most are not new
PANDEMIC – Greek PAN = all; DEMOS = people
VIRUS – Latin – a poisonHOSPITAL – Latin – a place for a guest
VACCINE – Latin – meaning “from a cow”? Because the first vaccine was to stop cowpox.
QUARANTINE – Italian (Venice) – means 40 days when ships had to wait to come into port.
FURLOUGH – Dutch – means leave of absence.
Hard for translators .. easy for deaf. Why? Because deaf just go straight to the visual meaning, not where word is from.
