Virus – Covid 19. Introduction
This is a new illness which affects your lungs and breathing.
New – means it has not been seen before – it is not like the common cold (we have resistance to that). Definitely not like the flu.
It came from China in December 2019 (that’s why it is Covid – 19).
There are many different coronaviruses which animals have.
Yes, they exist already. Only a few can be transmitted to humans. Because they are mainly in animals, humans do not have a resistance and so they will become ill.
The symptoms for humans include a runny nose, cough, sore throat, possibly a headache and maybe a fever, which can last for some days.
Most people have just this mild illness.
But …
for those who are less strong in health, the elderly and the very young, the virus can cause a lower problem (in the chest) , and much more serious, breathing illness like a pneumonia or bronchitis.
They may need to goto hospital and be given oxygen to help them to breathe.
